Weekend Getaway for March 19

WHAT: Metro Parks Tacoma’s annual Mud Run moves to Swan Creek Park this year for 2 miles of sloppy, family friendly fun. The run is on pavement and trails, and includes 19 obstacles with names such as Beast Bear Crawl, Mud Mayhem and the Great Wall of Tacoma. Runners will jump fire, crawl on their bellies and can expect to be filthy by the time they cross the finish line. The event is not timed, but a clock will be posted at the finish line for those who want to see how long it takes them to complete the course. In previous years, the Mud Run was at Titlow Park.

WHEN: 9 a.m. Saturday.

WHERE: Swan Creek Park, Tacoma.

PARKING: Enter and park near Lister Elementary School at the intersection of East 44th and T streets.

COST: $35.

ALSO: Check in starts at 7 a.m. and day-of-race registration closes at 8:15 a.m. A water station for post-race cleanup is provided. Participants also receive a towel. Strollers and dogs are not allowed. An award will be presented to the muddiest participant, according to the event website. Swan Creek also is home to hiking trails and Tacoma’s first mountain bike trail system.
