Ocean Shores Razor Clam Festival

WHAT: The ninth annual event celebrates the tasty mollusk than can be dug on coastal beaches. The festival schedule includes chowder and entrée cooking events, vendors, art auction and a kids corner.

WHEN: March 20-22.

WHERE: Ocean Shores Convention Center, 120 W. Chance a La Mer NW, Ocean Shores.

TASTING HIGHLIGHTS: There will be competitions for the best creative clam entrée and seafood entrée, featuring local chefs. Professional chefs also will compete in nonclam and clam chowder cook-offs. There also will be an amateur clam chowder competition and cooking demonstrations by chefs from the North Beach area.

OTHER EVENTS: There will be a display and people’s choice voting for best decorated clam shovels and tubes on March 20, with an auction on March 21. The kids corner will include face painting and a mechanical shark ride. Attendees also can win prizes by following clues and finding “clams” at local businesses.

DIG FOR CLAMS: The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has tentatively scheduled a dig that will coincide with the festival. Here are the dates and low tide times: March 20, 7:26 p.m., -0.4 feet; Saturday, 7:55 a.m., -0.5 feet; and Sunday, 8:42 a.m., -0.7 feet. The dig actually runs from March 16-24, if clams are safe to eat. Learn more about digging for clams at wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/razorclams.
