Weekend Getaway for Dec. 25

WHAT: Looking for a way to make skiing a bit more affordable? Night skiing is less expensive than hitting the slopes during the day, although you might end up spending the money you saved on another layer of clothing. A day pass at White Pass is $62, while night skiing costs just $28.

WHEN: Keep checking the website, skiwhitepass.com, as they will update for conditions. As of press time, they are scheduled to open Saturdays only for night skiing from Jan. 11-March 1. It will also be available Sunday, Jan. 19 and Sunday, Feb.16.

WHERE: White Pass Ski Area.

GETTING THERE: From Interstate 5 or state Route 7, follow U.S. Highway 12 to White Pass.

COST: $28. Night skiing is included in the full-day (8:45 a.m.-9 p.m.) pass.

OF NOTE: Stevens Pass and the Summit at Snoqualmie also offer night skiing. Check with the ski area before going to assure conditions allow the resort to open for night skiing. White Pass’s longest lifts aren’t open for night skiing. The Far East, Platter and Carpet lifts are open and service mostly beginner terrain.
