Today is the last day for online registration for a new 5-kilometer race designed to introduce people to running.
The Run Olympia Relay is Dec. 13 with a competitive wave starting from Marathon Park at 9 a.m. and a fun run following at 9:45 a.m.
Race spokeswoman Anne Larsen says local running clubs will be at the race and a running expo Friday, Dec. 12, 4-7 p.m. at Inspire PT, 4740 Avery Lane.
Participants have the option of running by themselves, as a tandem team (side by side with another runner) or as a relay team (each runner covering about 1.6 miles). Runners of all speeds and walkers are welcome, Larsen said.

Larsen says Run Olympia Relay aims to help eliminate hurdles that sometimes keep people from running. She hopes the relay will become an annual event.
Online registration closes at midnight at active.com but registration is also available at the Friday expo and the race if spots are available. The race is capped at 300 people and as of Monday organizers said about 200 people had registered.
As part of the festivities, organizers are collecting donated new and used running gear for Thurston County runners who can’t afford gear. The gear will be distributed Dec. 14 at Olympia’s Drexel House and Quixote Village.
