Forest roads 99 and 26, on the east side of Mount St. Helens, will close Thursday for the winter, managers at Gifford Pinchot National Forest announced Wednesday afternoon.
Forest Road 99 will be gated at the junction with Forest Road 25. Forest Road 26 will be gated at milepost 12.3 before Ryan Lake.
Forest Road 25 remains open for now.
Monday was the beginning of winter closures for several Forest Service roads on the national forest.

Winter weather in the forest can change rapidly, especially at higher elevations. Most forest roads are not maintained for winter driving. Traction devices and a shovel are recommended, as is extra food, drinking water, winter clothing, blankets, a flashlight, and first aid kit.
