1 Sunday fitness bike ride

This fitness ride runs year-round, every Sunday. The ride will cover up to 60 miles at an average pace of 16-18 mph. Be ready to go at 11 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 7). 2 Learn avalanche signs

People headed to the backcountry this winter should be aware of the risks of avalanches. This course will offer information on where and why slides occur, where to get avalanche bulletins and how to recognize danger signs. 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, REI, 3825 S. Steele St., Tacoma. Free. 3 Climbing info night

The Tacoma Mountaineers are hosting an information night for its scrambles and basic rock climbing and glacier climbing courses that start in February. 7 p.m. Thursday, Tacoma Mountaineers Program Center, 2302 N. 30th St., Tacoma. Free. tacomamountaineers.org.


4 Recovery of the condors

Carol Langfordwill give a program on the recovery of the California Condor at the next meeting of the Black Hills Audubon Society. In 1987, there were just 22 condors, and now there are more than 400. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. with the program beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, 701 Franklin St. SE, Olympia. blackhills-audubon.org.
