The number of boaters contacted by 585 local, state and federal agencies during the annual Operation Dry Water, the nation’s boating under the influence awareness and enforcement campaign. Held June 27-29, the effort helped remove 318 intoxicated boat operators from the nation’s waters. Since the launch of Operation Dry Water in 2009, the number of boating fatalities where alcohol was a contributing factor has decreased from 19 percent to 16 percent.
