Northwest ski areas starting to announce opening dates

Northwest ski areas are starting to crank up their lifts and announce opening days.

Whistler Blackcomb’s Whistler Mountain is open for the season while Blackcomb Mountain is scheduled to open on Thanksgiving. Lookout Pass on the Idaho-Montana border is also planning to open Thanksgiving.

Crystal Mountain says it has “12-18 inches in Green Valley” with the forecast calling for more snow today. The ski area typically needs at least two feet of snow to open.

White Pass has received 10 inches of snow in the last 24 hours and the Summit at Snoqualmie has received 10 inches in the past 48 hours.

Opening days have not been announced for Washington ski areas.
