An open house to discuss the third and fourth phases of construction on the Historic Water Ditch Trail is scheduled for Nov. 19, the City of Tacoma announced Wednesday.
The 2-hour meeting is at 4:30 p.m. at the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, 4851 South Tacoma Way. The goal of the project is to improve bike and pedestrian traffic along the South Tacoma Way corridor by restoring the 6 1/2-mile trail. Phase 3 and 4 are the final part of the project that will construct trail between Pine and C streets.
City officials are proposing four possibilities for the section of trail.
"After almost a decade of good work by City employees and advocates, it’s gratifying to know we're completing the final stage to this treasure in South Tacoma." City Council member Lauren Walker said in a prepared statement. "My family and I have ridden our bikes throughout this corridor for the past 13 years. We will finally have a completed, safe route from the Hilltop neighborhood through South Tacoma."
