SWAN CREEK MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK
WHAT: New this year, Swan Creek’s mountain bike park is the South Sound’s first designated mountain bike trail system. The trails are relatively short, but work crews have crammed a lot into this 50-acre patch of Swan Creek. Trails range from beginner to expert, with the longest, Hustle & Flow, offering something for all abilities. The trail system on Metro Parks Tacoma land was assembled by volunteers and coordinated by the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance.
WHEN: Open daily.
WHERE: Parking is located on East 56th Street east of Portland Avenue, or on T Street near Lister Elementary. To view trail access routes, view a map of the trail system at Metro Parks Tacoma’s website.
COST: No fee.
HISTORY: Phase 1 of the trail construction projected finished in March and organizers hope to add more trails soon.
OF NOTE: The mountain bike portion takes up just 50 acres of the 323-acre park. Cyclists are not allowed on the soft surface pedestrian trails in other parts of the park. Metro Parks officials ask trail riders to wear a helmet. There are several obstacles along the trails, which can be avoided if they are above the rider’s skill set.
