The road to Sunrise at Mount Rainier National Park has closed for the winter because of snow and ice, park officials said Monday.
The road is closed at the inersection with the White River Campground road.
Stevens Canyon Road is currently closed because of snow but is expected to reopen after snow removal work is completed. The park recommends checking its social media pages and websites for the latest conditions before attempting to drive through Stevens Canyon. The road can be hazardous even when it’s open, park officials said, and significant snowfall could result in its closure for the season.
