Arizona man identified as victim in Mount Rainier motorcycle crash

A 64-year-old Mesa, Arizona, man has been identified as the victim of a motorcycle accident in Mount Rainier National Park Thursday. The Lewis County Coroner’s Office said Thomas Casias died when his motorcycle went off the road.

The accident happened at the east end of Stevens Canyon, about 1 mile from the entrance station. Casias was at the rear of a group of eight motorcylists when the accident took place.

“He lost control of his motorcycle somehow, and went over an embankment,” chief ranger Chuck Young said. “There was some indication he laid the motorcycle down before going over the embankment.”

Young said the other riders had ridden down the road before noticing Casias was missing. Young said they are still trying to determine what caused Casias to lose control.

Young said rangers did CPR at the scene, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful
