Races, guided walks, art fill schedule for Lake Sylvia festival

Visitors to the fifth annual Discover Lake Sylvia Fall Festival and Art Walk Saturday will have the chance to take part in mountain bike races, trail runs, guided walks and demonstrations.

The mountain bike races include a 14-mile expert and 6-mile novice courses. Trail runners can take part in a half marathon, a 10-kilometer run or a free family fun run.

The races will take place on well-maintained forest trails or logging roads. The expert mountain bike course includes several difficult uphill sections that will require riders to dismount their bikes.

The entry fee for each race is $40 or $50 the day of the race. You can register at active.com. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.

Other activities for the day include a pancake breakfast, vintage kids’ games, a nature art table and outdoor cooking demonstrations (and tastings) by scouts.

During the guided walk, participants can learn the history of Lake Sylvia and the Luark family.

For the art walk, almost 10 artists will have booths set up along a wooded trail.

The festival will run from 7 a.m.-4 p.m.

People wishing to park at the lake must have a Discover Pass. Shuttle service will be available at Simpson Elementary School in Montesano.

The park is at 1812 Lake Sylvia Road N., Montesano.
