Mount Rainier’s Trail of the Shadows will be the location of a living history program Saturday, Aug. 23, as volunteers and park staff wear costumes to portray key players in park history.
The event will tell the story of early Mount Rainier and the National Park Service. Rangers will guide groups along the 1-mile trail at Longmire and the historical figures will be stationed along the trail.
The program is free and last about 80 minutes, but regular park entry fees ($15 per vehichle) apply. Walks leave from the National Park Inn at 8:30, 8:50, 9:10 and 9:30 p.m. Park officials recommend bringing warm clothing, sturdy footwear, insect repellant and a flashlight.
