Nearly two inches of rain seem to have extinguished a pair of lightning-sparked wildfires at Mount Rainier National Park.
A section of the Wonderland Trail closed because of the Shadow Lake Fire is reopened.
Firefighters were on duty when the storm started and were pulled from the field because of lightning danger and heavy rain. Park officials say the burn area will still be patrolled to monitor warm spots.
A smaller fire, the Scarface West Fire, also seems to have been doused by the storm, which dropped 1.7 inches of rain on the park. Park officials say no smoke has been reported from the area since the storm.
