Mountain bike racing series ends tonight, cyclocross series starts Aug. 20

The return season of Wednesday Night Worlds mountain bike races at North Sea-Tac Park ends tonight, but the action is just starting.

After tonight’s event (the course opens at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.), the series will switch from mountain biking to cyclocross on Aug. 20. Event promoter Russell Stevenson says a cross bike isn’t needed to sample the sport. Mountain bikes are welcome.

With more than 200 participants this year, Stevenson says, "there’s somebody there who is probably like you."

The Wednesday night events are $15 for adults and $8 for juniors and many use these practice races to train for the coming cyclocross season.

The cyclocross training series runs through Sept. 17. Stevenson says Wednesday Night Worlds, which went dormant in recent years, is having a successful return and will be back in 2015.

This is Stevenson’s first year as director of the event. "Wednesday Night Worlds will grow, for sure," Stevenson said.
