Lake Stevens and its surrounding roads will play host Sunday, Aug. 17, to a 70.3-mile triathlon, Washington’s only Ironman-sanctioned triathlon at that distance.
The Lake Stevens Ironman 70.3 is half the distance of the Ironman distance and requires participants to swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and finish with a half marathon (13.1 miles).
According to the event website, more than 1,000 participants from around the nation are registered. Online registration is closed but walk-up registration will be during athlete check-in hours on Friday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 16. Participants must be 18 or older. The entry fee is $300.
The race starts with two waves of professional racers at 6:30 a.m. The top five finishers win cash prizes, with $3,000 to the winner.
