Paddlers will celebrate Kitsap Peninsula Water Trail’s new national status on Aug. 23

Paddlers will gather Saturday to celebrate the designation of the Kitsap Peninsula Water Trails as part of the National Water Trails System.

This one-day trip will start at Port Orchard at 9 a.m., then follow the marine water trail on a strong incoming tide through the Port Washington Narrows to Silverdale’s Waterfront Park, ending about 2 p.m.

Organizers said this trip is appropriate for paddlers of all skill levels.

The Kitsap water trail was added to the national system earlier this year. The county has more than 370 miles of shoreline, making it a prime destination for paddlers.

Registration is $15 and can be done online at www.paddlekitsap.com. Rental watercraft, including stand-up paddleboards, are available for the trip through Olympic Outdoor Center.
