The short Madison Falls Trail in the Elwha River valley will be closed to public use for three weeks beginning Monday. Olympic National Park trail crews and volunteers will work to make improvements to the trail, including construction of a new rock retaining wall, installation of new railings and trail surface, and revegetation of the work area, according to a park news release.
This project, along with several others, is being funded by a $50,000 grant from Washington’s National Park Fund awarded earlier this year.
The 0.1-mile trail is wheelchair and stroller accessible, and ends with views of the 60-foot Madison Falls.
The small picnic area and accessible restroom located at the Madison Falls Trailhead will remain open during the work. Restrooms and short walking trails are also available in and around the Elwha Campground, located a short distance away within the park.
