Several South Sound marinas have special classes and programs planned for Saturday as they join the celebration of National Marina Day.
They are part of more than a dozen Puget Sound marinas celebrating Welcome to the Water on National Marina Day. Activities will include vessel safety checks, barbecues, live music, knot tying classes, fishing lessons, sailboat rides, kayak lessons, games and raffles.
Here is a look at some of the marinas taking part:
Des Moines Marina: The Poverty Bay Power Squadron will offer a class, there will be an on-water yoga session, a seminar on AIS marine systems and a barbecue. The marina also has kayak rentals and is close to the Des Moines waterfront farmers market.

Dock Street Marina/Delin Docks/Foss Landing Marina: They will offer free vessel safety inspections; seminars on navigation, fire extinguishers, maintenance and more; there will be kids dinghy races; tours of the 78-foot 1931 Charles N Curtis by the Tacoma Sea Scouts; Tacoma Police, Fire and Pierce County Sheriff marine vessels will be on display; there will be a dragon boat demonstrations and rides courtesy of Tacoma Dragon Boat Association; free one-hour kayak and standup paddleboard rentals; and free hotdogs, chips and sodas.

Foss Harbor Marina: Activities include free kayak and standup paddleboard rentals, with skill and safety demonstrations; blindfolded dinghy races; vessel safety checks by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary; and a barbecue.

Point Defiance Marina: The staff is offering a crabbing class from 10-noon. Puget Sound Angler member and lifelong angler and crabber Larry Bucklin will teach all aspects of catching crabs, regulations and caring for crab once you catch them. The cost is $15.
They also will hold boating clinics, offer sizing of life jackets, and representatives from Surfriders Foundation will be there to promote clean beaches and water. Also, day boat and motor rentals will be 75 percent off of the normal rate, just $25 for the day.
