WASHINGTON HUNTS: Forest Grouse

Species: Ruffed, blue and Franklins.

Area: Statewide.

Opens: Sept. 1.Closed areas: Federal and state parks, incorporated areas (cities and towns) and Indian reservations.

Limits: Three birds (either sex and aggregate species) a day, nine in possession.

Licenses and tags: Either 2007 Washington big game (up to $72.27 for residents) or small game (up to $32.85 for residents) hunting license.

Weaponry: Any legal firearm (shotgun, handgun or modern or muzzleloader rifle).

Special rules: Non-toxic shot must be used in some hunting areas.

Hunt ends: Dec. 31.
