Bellingham Bay Swim Team member Emma Carlton finished fifth in “B” final and 13th overall with a time of 1 minute, 1.69 seconds in the women’s 100-meter butterfly at the 2016 Speedo Junior National Championships on Wednesday, Aug. 10, in Minneapolis.
Carlton, a 16-year-old junior at Mount Vernon High School who competed in the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials in the butterfly last month, also finished 44th in the 100 freestyle preliminaries Tuesday, Aug. 9, with a time of 58.62 seconds and will compete in the 50 freestyle preliminaries on Friday, Aug. 12.
Carlton also will join BBST’s Sydney Wong (Bellingham), Yanran Le (Bellingham) and Emma Frey (Mount Vernon) in the 400-medley relay, which starts with preliminaries Friday. The quartet enters with the seventh-fastest seed time – a 4:18.21 they swam in March at the at Speedo Sectionals at Federal Way.
