Post 7 rally back in fifth for win

Bellingham Post 7 pulled out to a 3-0 lead early and rallied in the fifth for a 5-3 win over the Skagit Sox on Tuesday, June 2, at Skagit Valley College.

Post 7 pitcher Felix Zavisubin tired a bit in the fourth, allowing three runs before Ernie Yake’s leadoff triple and a passed ball in the top of the fifth put Bellingham back on top for good. Dalton Ohligschlager came in for the final three innings and pitched shutout ball to secure the win.

“The kids battled back,” coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. “They’re still feeling each other out a bit. ... They can turn it on when they need to but that won’t work in the long run.”

Jordan Wittenberg and Kyler Brudwick went a perfect 4 for 4 on the night.

Post 7 plays Whalley, British Columbia on Thursday, June 4, at Joe Martin Stadium.
