Sierra Noskoff and Elena Wolgamot, both 12, set national kayaking records Saturday, May 30, paddling 773 kilometers in six weeks.
As members of the Bellingham Canoe and Kayak Sprint Team, coached by Dan Baharav, Noskoff and Wolgamot completed the six-week-long Barton Bantoms Challenge. The Bellingham athletes surpassed the old record of 751 kilometers for boys and 651 kilometers for girls previously held by paddlers in San Diego, Calif.
Throughout the six weeks, Noskoff and Wolgamot paddled six days a week, after school until 8 p.m. They also continued to attend regular team practices five days a week.
