Whatcom Rowers Association’s women’s youth boat with four sculling rowers took first in its division with a time of 8 minutes, 25 seconds to take the group’s first title at the Northwest Regional held Friday, May 15, to Sunday, May 17, in Vancouver, Wash.
The team of coxswain Rebecca Garfinkle, Mataya Siemion, Maddi Cummins, Alysa Gallant and Rebecca Lilliquist earned WRA’s first trophy from the event.
Fourth place finishers for WRA included the men’s varsity four-man boat of coxswain Thomas Newman, Cameron Odegaurd, Elliot Niemur, Spencer Rose and Sean Casey, and the women’s boat in the same category of coxswain Emily Parker, Abby Hayes, Sophie Jones, Jaclyn Hodges and Lilliquist.
The women’s 2V four-person boat of Garfinkle, Amy Evans, Lili Pongracz Bartha, Susie Bennett and Emma Bennett took first in their heat and placed fourth in the final.

WRA competed in 17 races and was in the middle of the pack for each race, director Shelly Bennett said in an email. The group is just two years removed from its first trip to the regional, where it finished last in the only two races it entered. For complete results from last weekend, visit usrowing.org.
