Final lap drama as Heath edges Starks at Skagit Speedway

Colton Heath passed Trey Starks on the final lap to steal a win in the 360 Sprint division in the fifth round of the Dwayne Lane’s Family of Auto Centers Racing Series on Saturday, May 16, at Skagit Speedway.

Starks led every lap before Heath made his move. Starks was second, with Tayler Malsam taking third. Malsam had the fastest time of the night. Eric Fisher, Kyle Evans and Cam Smith were the heat race winners.

Lance Sargent took the Sportsman Sprint A Main after leading all 25 laps and holding off Greg Otis. Bill Rude took third. Cale Brooke, Rude and Devin Barnes were the heat race winners.

Mark Carrell and Lawrence O’Connor put pressure on Mel Decker as he led the first 22 laps of the Shipwreck Beads Modified main event, and Carrell was able to pin Decker behind a slower car on the 23rd lap. Decker finished second, with O’Connor finishing third.

Freddie Vela earned his third win in four tries in the Outlaw Tuners, leading every lap after the first and winning by a considerable margin. Clint Meins was second, and Jon Gunderson third. Vela and Gunderson were the heat winners.
