The Western Washington men’s rugby team won the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference (NCRC) championship on Saturday, April 11, with a come-from-behind victory over the Washington Huskies at UW.
The Huskies had a 22-14 advantage at halftime. Scoring trys for WWU were Louie Henson and Nick Bonovich and Nick Salimano converted both trys.
In the second half, Henson’s try at the 65-minute mark put WWU ahead for the first time in the game. Salimano also added a penalty kick to secure the win and the championship trophy for the second time in three years. WWU’s record now stands at 8-2 for the season.
The win qualifies WWU for the West Regional, one of four around the country, hosted at UC Davis on Aug. 25-26. The four winners will advance to the final four on May 9, in Atlanta, Ga. The Vikings will face Arkansas, who won the Heart of America Conference title over Iowa State.
Bells seek host families for 2015 team
The Bellingham Bells are accepting applications for host families for the 2015 season.
During the summer, 35 collegiate baseball players will call Bellingham home as they compete for the Bells.
The Bells roster spans the nation and includes players from the University of Maine, Arizona State, Washington, UCLA and many others.
Host families are vital to the Bells’ success, and play a huge role in the overall experience that the player has while in Bellingham.
Every year, players integrate into the Bellingham community and connect with host families in a way that becomes a large part of the summer experience.
Players will begin to arrive as early as June 1, and will continue to trickle in depending on the completion of their academic calendar.
The players will stay through the summer season, which concludes in mid-August. During the three-month season, the players will spend approximately half of their time on the road.
For more information or to get involved, contact Bells general manager Nick Caples at 360-746-0406 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
