Lynden Christian conceded an early goal and wasn’t able to capitalize on its chances, taking a 1-0 season-ending Class 1A Bi-District Tournament loss to University Prep on Thursday, May 14, at Sultan High School.
Prep’s Jackson Ragen got open off a corner kick from teammate Ty Mater in the eighth minute to put the Pumas in front 1-0.
“First goal we just missed an assignment,” Lyncs coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “Jackson, their leading scorer, was able to time his run perfectly. They played another player through in front of him as a dummy and he finished perfectly.”
Lynden Christian had a handful of chances the rest of the way, De Ruyter said, but LC couldn’t put one past University Prep goalkeeper Fanjay Levinson.

“I thought our guys played incredibly hard,” De Ruyter said. “We had a really good chance early in the (second) half and a really good chance in the first half.”
With two minutes left, De Ruyter said his team put a shot right over the crossbar.
Lynden Christian (7-12-1) placed five shots on goal compared to University Prep’s three, and LC goalkeeper Jake Poag made three saves.
De Ruyter credited his seniors for their strong play and was pleased with how far his club came this season, starting the year with a 7-0 loss to being the last Northwest Conference Class 1A team alive in the postseason.
“These guys have come an incredibly long way,” De Ruyter said. “The group we brought in had five basketball players who hadn’t played much soccer. .. I’m extremely proud of them.”
