Mariners tie Sehawks in regular season finale

Sehome’s boys’ soccer team finished its regular season with a tie, drawing 1-1 with Anacortes in a Northwest Conference game between two 2A district playoff teams on Monday, May 4, at Anacortes.

Kevin Sun scored for the Mariners, who finished the season with the last 2A playoff spot in the conference. Sehome is unbeaten in its last six games, going 4-0-2

“We had four opportunities on a silver platter that somehow we managed to miss,” Sehome coach John Sylvester said in a phone interview. “Having Zach Wanne back has helped us be more even. We feel like we’re peaking and getting our players healthy at the right time.”

Sehome takes on top-seeded, city rival Squalicum at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Whatcom Community College’s Orca Field.
