Blaine scores two straight goals in a 2-2 tie against Meridian

Blaine’s boys’ soccer team scored two goals off corner kick set pieces in a 2-2 tie with Meridian on Thursday, April 30, at Meridian High School.

Meridian scored the first two goals of the game. Alex Klykov scored in the ninth minute and Alex Martin added another in the 30th minute.

Borderites’ Konner VanRijswick scored in the 66th minute and the team scored the game-tying goal in the 70th minute.

“I thought we played really well,” Meridian coach Joe Spencer said in a phone interview. “(Blaine) had two good opportunities and they put them away.”

Blaine will take on Ferndale next at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Pipeline Fields. Meridian will make the Class 1A Northwest District playoffs if Mount Baker loses to Squalicum on Thursday night.
