Hughes scores 3 goals in Squalicum’s 8-1 victory

Tyler Hughes scored a hat trick to lead Squalicum’s boys’ soccer game to an 8-1 win against Meridian on Tuesday, April 28, at Meridian High School.

Both teams combined to score four goals in the first 10 minutes of the match. Hughes scored two of his goals early on.

“It was an odd first seven minutes of the game,” Squalicum coach Joe McAuliffe said in a phone interview. “Despite the goal difference they (Meridian) played well and it was a good game.”

The Storm’s Quinn Carpenter added a goal and an assist in the game as well.

Squalicum will play Mount Baker next at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Whatcom Community College. Meridian will take on Blaine next at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Pipeline Fields.
