Lynden Christian took a 3-1 Northwest Conference loss in the absence of its leading scorer, Cody Fransen, on Thursday, April 16, at Burlington-Edison.
Liam Kroontje pulled even with Fransen for the team lead in goals with a 79th minute strike. Both players have five goals. Fransen was away from the team to have wrist surgery.
“I think our pressure was really good and forced Burlington-Edison in the final third to stall quite a few of their opportunities, we just didn’t create many of our own opportunities and that was the biggest issue,” Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “Liam had a great game and Jake Poag made some great saves off of set pieces and crosses that didn’t count as shots on goal.”
Poag finished with four saves. Juan Montemayor scored twice for the Tigers, and Kevin Miranda added a goal and an assist.
