Lyncs second-half surge routs Baker

Lynden Christian’s boys’ soccer team scored all of its goals in the second half as it defeated Mount Baker 4-0 on Tuesday, April 14, in a Northwest Conference game at Lynden Christian.

Cody Fransen and Justin Brester each had a goal and an assist to lead the Lyncs. Liam Kroontje and Alex Shaw added a goal apiece, and Nate Hielkema had an assist.

“In the first half you could see some rust from spring break, but after the half the guys made great adjustments and possessed better,” Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “We stretched out Baker to create gaps that we took advantage of. We executed our set pieces better, which was how Alex scored on a corner.”

Lynden Christian plays again at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Burlington-Edison. Mount Baker hosts Blaine at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at home.
