Quiroz leads Lynden’s 2-0 win against Meridian

Gerardo Quiroz scored a goal and assisted another to lead Lynden’s boys’ soccer team to a 2-0 victory against Meridian on Wednesday, April 8, at Bender Fields.

The Lions’ Jonathon Lara scored the first goal of the game at the 10 minute mark and Quiroz’s goal came in the 27th minute. Hector Gutierrez got the shutout in goal for the Lions.

“We played great today. We used the field really well and had a lot of great passing,” Lynden coach Drew Smiley said in a phone interview.

One aspect of Lynden’s performance today that Smiley mentioned wasn’t as good was the Lions’ ability to finish scoring opportunites.

“We leaned back the power,” he said, “sent stuff flying over the goal, over and over again.”

Lynden takes on Nooksack Valley next at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at home.
