Carlos Velasco netted an early 11th minute goal off a Will Mascioli assist for Bellingham’s boys’ soccer team to kick off its 2-0 victory against Nooksack Valley on Monday, March 30, at Civic Stadium.
“I felt like we had a lot of possession in (Nooksack Valley’s) half and created chances,” Bellingham coach Matt Zigulis said in a phone interview.
The Pioneers came out in the second half fighting, Zigulis said. But a 78th minute goal by Noe Betancourt-Cruz off an Anders Botterill assist sealed the match for the Red Raiders.
“For us to get that second goal and kill Nooksack’s chances was key,” Zigulis said. “The one thing that stood out today was how we played as a team.”
