Sehome’s boys’ soccer team struck early against Lynden and held on for a 1-0 win over the Lions in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, March 27, at Northwest Soccer Park.
Noah Byford scored the goal for the Mariners in the ninth minute. Charlie Lahud had the assist on the play, but took a chin to the head on a header attempt later in the game that took him out of the match. Lahud didn’t have any concussion symptoms and received some stitches, but should recover, Sehome coach John Sylvester said in a phone interview.
“For whatever reason, the tide of the game changed quite a bit after we scored in the first 10 minutes,” Sylvester said. “They tightened up and it turned into an even battle.”
Lions’ goalkeeper Hector Guitierrez grabbed 11 saves and stymied a few good Sehome chances, Sylvester said. He also complemented the Lynden defense for the same reason.
Sehome plays next in an NWC game at 6 p.m. Monday, March 30, at Burlington-Edison. Lynden also has a conference game at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 30, at Pipeline Fields against Blaine.
