Lynden Christian’s boys’ soccer team jumped out to an early lead and held on for a Northwest Conference win over Meridian, 2-1, on Thursday, March 26, at Lynden Christian.
Cody Fransen opened scoring in just the sixth minute for LC, assisted by Noah Bartz, and Liam Kroontje scored just seven minutes later on an assist by Carson Janzen.
Alex Martin gave the Trojans a shot to get back in it with a goal in the 49th minute, but the LC defense thwarted the rest of their attacks.
Fransen took a hard foul in the first half and had to sit out most of the game to nurse his leg. He did return for the final 10 minutes, but his absence was felt in the game.
“The momentum shifted there and we got too safe,” Lynden Christian coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. “I was proud of them for how hard they played. It was an absolute war, very physical.”
Lynden Christian hosts Ferndale at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 30, at home. Meridian hosts Nooksack Valley at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at home.
