Parris’ hat trick, two assists help Lions overcome slow start

Lynden’s boys’ soccer team overcame a slow start to beat Kayhi, an Alaskan team, 6-2 on Friday, March 20, at Bender Fields in a non-conference game.

Nicholas Parris was key for the Lions as he tallied three goals and two assists in the win.

“He had a high work rate. He probably could have had more goals,” Lynden coach Drew Smiley said in a phone interview. “I didn’t think we warmed up really well. We were sloppy and after our first goal I thought we got even sloppier. We gave up a couple of quick goals, but that woke us up and we played the rest of the game.”

Lynden opened scoring with a quick Jordi Ramirez goal in the fourth minute, assisted by Parris. Kayhi came back and scored goals in the 11th and 12th minutes to take an early lead, but Lynden came back with four more goals.

Ramirez finished with a goal and two assists, Miguel Gonzalez added a goal, and Alejandro Huante and Carlos Melendez each had an assist for the Lions.

Lynden plays its final non-conference game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Bender Fields against Lynden Christian.
