Lynden Christian’s boys’ soccer team jumped out to an early lead, but Mount Baker answered quickly to knot things up and eventually take the 2-1 win on Friday, March 20, at Mount Baker in a non-conference game.
Carson Janzen opened scoring for LC, but Mount Baker answered a minute later when Jesus Torrero’s cross found Taylor Bruntil in the box, where he finished it to tie the game at 1-all.
Five minutes into the second half, Zane Smith’s free kick sailed past the defense and found Zach Yurchuk, who was able to find the net to give the Mountaineers a 2-1 win.
“The defense played really tight. Eridan (Niethardt-Smith) and Taylor (Bruntil) did a good job of controlling the midfield and we were able to execute a few opportunities,” Mount Baker coach Jason Jorgenson said in a phone interview. “It was good to get that work rate going the whole time. We were able to move the ball well at times and it was good to see the guys jelling and coming together for the first time.”
