PREP BOYS’ SOCCER PREVIEW: 5 Players to Watch

Noe Betancourt-Cruz

Bellingham, sr., midfielder/forward

Despite getting double-teamed up front for the Red Raiders, he scored four goals and three assists last season, while earning first-team All-Northwest Conference honors.

Brandon Burbank

Squalicum, sr., midfield

Was part of Squalicum’s terrific midfield last season. He scored three of his four goals in the Class 2A State Tournament, including two in the state semifinal.

Hector Gutierrez

Lynden, sr., goalkeeper

One of the best goalkeepers in the state, he helped Lynden to a 5-5-6 record while recording four shutouts. He only 19 goals all season and was named the All-Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Tyler Hughes

Squalicum, so., midfielder/forward

As a freshman last season, Hughes was a vital part of the Storm’s championship squad. He scored nine goals and six assists, including two goals in the title game and was a first-team All-Northwest Conference selection.

Cody Fransen

Lynden Christian, sr., midfielder/forward

One of the Lyncs’ two captains and a dominating force for the LC attack. He brings plenty of playoff experience after leading the boys’ basketball team to the state title game.
