High School Soccer

Coach: Joe McAuliffe

Last year: Finished 21-0-2 overall and 12-0-0 in the Northwest Conference. ... Didn’t allow a goal the last 17 games of the season on the way to a Class 2A state title.

Players to watch: Tyler Hughes (So., F), Brandon Burbank (Jr., M), Quinn Carpenter (Sr., M), BJ James (Sr., D/M), Zachary Wallace (Sr., M), Spencer Wallace (Sr., D)

Outlook: Coming off a state title is always nice and despite losing 11 seniors, the Storm return loads of talent, many of which stepped up in last year’s postseason run. Tyler Hughes emerged as a fantastic forward in his freshman season but this team is built around the midfield of Brandon Burbank, Quinn Carpenter, Zachary Wallace and Carlos Tovar. “Even more so this year, we’ll rely on the strength of our midfield distributing the ball to really capable forwards,” coach Joe McAuliffe said in a phone interview. “I think we’ll see a lot out of the midfield this year. They’ve shown a lot of maturity and leadership.” And don’t forget about that defense. The team didn’t allow a goal the last 17 games of the year and only let in five all season. There’s currently competition at goalie after Trenton Langer’s graduation but defense will again be a strong suit.
