Edie Breckenridge exploded for six goals as Meridian’s girls’ soccer team fell 6-3 to Burlington-Edison in a Northwest Conference game on Thursday, Oct. 23, at Burlington.
Lexi McKinnon, Janessa Murphy and Ryley Zapien all scored for the Trojans, with Emily Schwisow and Payton Lunde adding assists.
“Janessa Murphy played 100 percent to the end,” Meridian coach Terry Tigert said in a phone interview. “Lexi scored the first one, but Janessa was an asset in making sure it went in. Lexi had an amazing game, too. Every opportunity we had was because of her in the midfield. She wasn’t the only one creating things, but she was a big reason the ball got to our forwards.”
Meridian’s back line had trouble marking Breckenridge, and part of the reason was they couldn’t catch her offside, Tigert said.
Meridian plays next in the Class 1A Northwest District Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
