Lynden stops Bellingham’s win streak

Bellingham and Lynden girls’ soccer battled to a 0-0 Northwest Conference tie on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Civic Stadium.

“Well I was really impressed with Lynden’s tenacity right from the beginning of the game,” Bellingham coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. “They were very motivated and they were really athletic. We had a tough time matching their intensity from the beginning.”

The tie ended the Red Raiders’ streak of eight consecutive wins, while the Lions have tied their last two contests.

Wright, while giving plenty of credit to Lynden’s Lexi Smiley and the Lions’ attack, also thought his team was a bit off on the offensive end, struggling to string passes and possessions together.

“That’s not what we’ve been used to,” he said of the performance.

Both teams are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 21, with Bellingham traveling to Mount Baker and Lynden going to Ferndale.
