Taylor VanBrocklin scored for Mount Baker and the defense held on for a 1-0 Northwest Conference win over Anacortes on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Anacortes.
“We came out and wanted to exceed their intensity, so we kept pressing and pressing,” Mount Baker coach Jason Jorgensen said in a phone interview. “We got wide and Marissa Scoville crossed it in, and Taylor was there to knock in a one-time ball over the keeper from about 8 yards out.”
Allie Whitson got the shutout for the Mountaineers with 10 saves. The Baker defense forced Anacortes’ attack out wide and kept them out of the middle, with center backs Molly Lynch and Jensen Bertrand being key in that defensive push.
“They kept getting opportunities on our end, but we played very compact, not letting anything through the middle,” Jorgensen added.
