Ferndale’s girls’ soccer team fell in its final game before the Northwest Conference portion of its schedule, 2-1 to Mount Vernon on Monday, Sept. 15, at Ferndale.
Jordin Bartel scored for the Golden Eagles in the 38th minute. Carly Bannerman pushed the ball up the middle and lofted a pass over the defense to Bartel. As Bartel took the ball into the box, the Bulldogs’ goalkeeper came out and Bartel fired the ball past her into the net.
Ferndale was unable to hold the lead, however, allowing goals in the 48th and 59th minutes.
“The goals scored against us were just defensive errors, which we’ve been working on, but it isn’t quite there yet,” Ferndale coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. “It wasn’t anyone’s fault, we’re just still trying to figure some stuff out. Trying to sort out the new players and who will play where. We know its about keeping hte other team out of our net, and if we can do that, we can win consistently.”
