Squalicum’s girls’ soccer team scored two goals in the span of three minutes on its way to a 3-0 win over Burlington-Edison on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Whatcom Community College.
Michelle Saunders got Squalicum’s season underway with an unassisted goal in the 14th minute and Payton Fowler followed that up with a score in the 17th minute assisted by Kim Hazlett.
“We got a lot of nice shots off, had some nice passing,” Squalicum (1-0) coach David Kish said in a phone interview. “We had really determined play among our forwards. We returned a lot of experience up top and our offense is clicking.”
In the second half, Hazlett tallied her first goal of the season to make it 3-0. Rachel Reynolds and Bailey Canup each saved one shot to give the Storm a shutout.
