Coach: Terry Tigert
Last year: 17-5-2 overall, NWC 7-3-2 (fourth place). Scored 75 goals against just 23 allowed, rolling through both the Class 1A district and tri-district tournaments before finishing 1-1 at state. Earned big wins against Northwest and University Prep in the tri-district tournament, adding a first-round 3-0 victory over Elma at state.
Players to watch: Payton Lunde (So., M); Janessa Murphy (Sr., F), Sydney Gospodinovich (So., GK).
Outlook: Tigert is in her first season at the helm of the Trojans’ girls’ soccer team, a program that has had some state playoff success over the past few years. She gets a stead of strong returners, including several strong sophomores in keeper Gospodinovich, and midfielders Ryley Zapien and Payton Lunde. “I must say, coming in as a new coach, I think I got pretty lucky with the number of girls we have,” Tigert said in a phone interview. “I have confidence in our starting 11.” Senior midfielder Murphy pairs together a strong group for Tigert, who is looking to play a more controlled, steady brand of soccer to manufacture goals.
