Ferndale’s prep football team is now ranked.

After topping Kamiakin 35-34 in overtime, the Golden Eagles got voters’ attention, moving from unlisted to No. 10 in the Associated Press Washington state Class 3A prep football poll, which was released Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The Golden Eagles benefited from a strong day out of the run game, including 150 yards from Ben Broselle and 73 yards from Austin Honeycutt. Ferndale will take on Oak Harbor at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Oak Harbor.

In the Class 2A poll, Squalicum moved up one spot — from No. 8 to No. 7 — after defeating Bellingham handily on Week 1. Squalicum will play Meridian Saturday, Sept. 12, at Civic Stadium.

It also vaulted the Storm ahead of Lynden, which dropped from No. 3 to No. 8. The Lions lost to King’s on the road last Friday, as their offense struggled in their first season-opening loss since 2012. Lynden will look to rebound against Lakewood on Friday at home.

Sedro-Woolley maintained its top spot in the 2A poll after beating Mount Baker 20-7.

The Mountaineers actually moved up a spot in the Class 1A poll for playing competitively against the Cubs. Coach Ron Lepper’s team went from No. 8 to No. 7. The Mounties play Oroville Friday in Deming.

Lummi stayed at No. 3 in the Class 1B poll with its 40-12 win over Taholah. The Blackhawks get rival and No.2-ranked Neah bay at home Friday.

The top teams in each class included Camas (4A), Eastside Catholic (3A), Cascade Christian (1A), Napavine (2B) and Liberty Christian (1B).

The AP prep football poll comes out every Wednesday throughout the football season.
