In its season opener, the Blaine football team jumped out to an early lead but let Kelowna, B.C., try to climb back into things.
“This week we kept our foot on the gas,” Borderites coach Jay Dodd said in phone interview.
The Blaine offensive line paved the way for Riley Fritsch to run for four touchdowns and 144 yards and the Borderites defense limited visiting Granite Falls to 86 yards of total offense in a dominating 56-6 victory.
“It was exciting — very similar to last week, where we jumped out to a big early lead,” Dodd said. “Last week we didn’t do a good job of maintaining the energy we needed for four quarters, but tonight our backups came in and did a great job.”

So did the first team, as Fritsch had short scoring runs of 6, 6 and 2 yards, before Kier Munzanreder added a 5-yard score to make it 28-0 after the first quarter.
“Our O-line had a good night,” Dodd said. “They did a great job of improving from last week with better technique and understanding how we run our plays.”
Cody Gobbato caught a 10-yard pass from Nathan Kramme in the second quarter, and after Granite Falls scored its only points of the game, Fritsch added his fourth TD of the night from 9 yards out. Kramme finished off the half with a 41-yard scoring toss to Anthony Ball to make it 49-6 at the half.
Munzanreder added another 5-yard touchdown run in the third for the final score.
All told, Blaine (2-0) rolled up 412 yards of total offense, more than four times what they allowed.
“Our defense did a great job of swarming to the ball and tackling as a team,” Dodd said.
Blaine will try to keep things rolling on Friday, Sept. 19, when it hosts Ferndale.
