Bauman threw for 330 yards and 3 TDs, but Nooksack took control ‘pounding the rock’

Coming off a statement 45-6 win over Blaine in Week 1, the visiting Pioneers rode senior quarterback Casey Bauman to another victory as Nooksack Valley beat Granite Falls 56-34 on Friday.

Bauman, who threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns last week, was locked in again, as he went 18 for 32 for roughly 330 yards and three touchdowns. Two of his touchdown passes were to Baylor Galley, who also had a key interception, according to Nooksack coach Robb Myhre.

Despite the win, Myhre wasn’t pleased with the way his team performed.

“We were about as sloppy as we could have been,” Myhre said. “As good as we played last week, we played the opposite of that tonight. I’d be amazed if we had under 150 yards in penalties.”

The Pioneers also turned the ball over four times, including one interception by Bauman. Nooksack Valley led 21-20 at the start of the third quarter, but Myhre said they started “pounding the rock” and things turned in the Pioneers’ favor.

Austin O’Bryan had one receiving touchdown and two rushing touchdowns while racking up 197 yards on the ground. Bauman rushed for one touchdown and had more than 100 yards rushing.
